15 minMeet the sloppy joe’s plant-powered cousin. Sloppy Toms swap ground beef for chopped soybeans, and the result is just as saucy, just as messy, and loaded with protein.
Onions, peppers, and celery get a quick sauté before everything gets tossed in a zippy sauce of ketchup, vinegar, chili powder, and Worcestershire.
Fifteen minutes from skillet to bun. That’s faster than delivery and about a hundred times more satisfying.
Chef Tips
- Chop the soybeans coarsely for a chunkier, more ground-meat-like texture. Too fine and you’ll end up with mush.
- A splash more vinegar at the end brightens the flavors if the ketchup makes things too sweet.
- Top with pickled jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce if you like your sloppy joes with a kick.
