40 minTextured vegetable protein soaks up a thick, spiced tomato sauce that rivals any meat-based sloppy joe.
Oregano and Worcestershire sauce add savory depth while cayenne brings just enough heat to keep things interesting.
Pile the saucy mixture on toasted kaiser rolls with shredded lettuce for crunch.
Pro Tips
- Rehydrate TVP granules according to package directions before cooking for the best texture
- Add a tablespoon of honey to balance the acidity of the tomato paste
- Toast kaiser rolls under the broiler for extra sturdiness that won’t get soggy
- Make a double batch and freeze leftovers for quick weeknight dinners
Ingredients
Directions
Heat oil in a large skillet & sauté garlic, onion, pepper & TVP. In a bowl, mix tomato paste with water, oregano, ketchup, cayenne, worcestershire sauce & honey is using. Stir into skillet. Bring to a boil & add salt if desired. The sauce should be thick but spreadable.
If desired, toast rolls. Spoon the sauce over the bottom half of the roll, pile on the lettuce & top with remaining roll half.
