45 minThese adorable cookies get shaped by hand to look like strawberries, complete with red sugar coating and green frosting leaves.
Dates and coconut cook down into a sticky, sweet base that holds crispy Rice Krispies and chopped nuts together.
No oven needed since everything cooks in a skillet on the stovetop.
Kids love helping shape and decorate these whimsical treats.
Kitchen Tips
- Cook until bubbly: The mixture needs to thicken properly before adding cereal
- Cool 10 minutes: This makes the mixture easier to handle
- Moisten your fingers: Damp hands prevent sticking when shaping
- Form consistent shapes: Use a level tablespoon of mixture for uniform strawberries
- Work quickly: Shape while the mixture is still warm and pliable
- Add leaves last: Green frosting dots complete the strawberry look
Variations
- Use chocolate Rice Krispies for a different flavor
- Try pecans or almonds instead of the nuts called for
- Make them round and roll in different colored sugars for variety
