Halloween witches’ broom sticks turn a basic biscuit dough into a savory party snack that looks straight out of a witch’s garage. Bisquick mix, milk, and Italian herbs come together in just a few minutes, then the dough gets rolled, twisted, and snipped into miniature broomsticks complete with fringed twig ends.

The shaping is the magic. Half the dough rolls into 7-inch ropes that fold and twist into broom handles, the same braid you’d see on a real witch’s broom. The other half flattens into discs that get fringed with kitchen scissors to create the bristly broom heads, then pinched onto the bottom of each twisted handle.

A quick brush of melted butter and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese finishes the look. As they bake at high heat, the brooms turn lightly golden, the cheese crisps into salty patches, and the herb-flecked dough fills the kitchen with a savory aroma that beats any candy on the Halloween table.

Kitchen Tips

  • Knead the dough exactly 11 times as the recipe instructs. Overworking turns biscuit dough tough and the brooms come out dense instead of fluffy.
  • Use sharp kitchen scissors to fringe the broom-head discs into clean strips. A dull knife smushes the dough and the bristles bake together into a blob.
  • Pinch the broom head firmly onto the handle. Loose connections separate in the oven and you’ll have brooms scattering across the baking sheet.
  • Brush the butter on right before baking, not after. Pre-baking butter helps the surface crisp golden, while post-baking butter just makes them oily.

Variations

  • Add ½ teaspoon garlic powder to the dough for a more pronounced savory flavor that pairs with marinara dipping sauce.
  • Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning instead of Parmesan for a different topping profile.
  • Use ranch seasoning packet in place of Italian seasoning for a kid-friendly twist.
