40 minNutty sesame seeds, a whisper of whole wheat flour, and cornstarch create a coating that fries up into something truly addictive.
But let’s talk about the real showstopper: a homemade plum sauce built from actual fresh plums simmered down with garlic, soy sauce, and teriyaki until thick and glossy.
None of that jarring stuff from a packet. This is smooth, sweet, and tangy with just enough savoriness to keep you reaching for one more tofu cube.
Stick a toothpick in each piece, arrange them on a platter, and this instantly becomes the appetizer everyone clusters around.
Pro Tips
- Use firm tofu so the cubes hold their shape during frying
- Toast the sesame seeds lightly in a dry pan first if you want extra nutty flavor in the coating
- Simmer the plum sauce until it reduces and thickens, then blend it smooth. It should coat the back of a spoon
- This plum sauce freezes well, so make a double batch when plums are in season
