Forget the delivery apps. This broccoli and cheddar pizza is the kind of homemade pie that makes you wonder why you ever ordered out.

Garlic-kissed broccoli florets get spread over the dough with a layer of creamy ricotta, then buried under a triple-cheese blanket of cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

The sesame seeds along the crust edge add a nutty crunch that elevates the whole thing.

Forty-five minutes from counter to table, and you’ve got a pizza that looks and tastes like it came from a wood-fired oven.

Kitchen Tips

  • Golden garlic is the goal. If it turns dark brown, it’ll taste bitter. Keep it moving in the pan and pull it off heat the moment it’s fragrant and golden.
  • Spread the ricotta-broccoli mixture first, then layer the shredded cheeses on top. This keeps the broccoli from drying out in the oven.
  • Press the sesame seeds gently into the exposed dough edge so they stick during baking.
  • Let the pizza rest on the pan for 2 to 3 minutes after baking. The cheese firms up just enough to slice without everything sliding off.

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

In a 10-inch non-stick skillet heat oil; add garlic and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until golden brown, about 1 minute.

Add broccoli and cook, stirring occasionally, until broccoli is thoroughly heated, 3 to 4 minutes.

Remove from heat; stir in ricotta cheese and set aside.

Spray 12-inch round pizza pan with nonstick cooking spray; fit pizza-crust dough into pan.

Spread broccoli mixture evenly over dough, leaving ½ inch of outer edge of dough uncovered.

Sprinkle sesame seed over outer edge of dough.

Sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over broccoli mixture, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and pepper.

Bake until pizza crust is lightly browned, 15 to 20 minutes.
