These little chocolate truffles have been stealing the show at holiday parties and potlucks for decades.

Crushed vanilla wafers get soaked in bourbon, then folded into melted semi-sweet chocolate and sweetened condensed milk to form a rich, fudgy dough.

Roll them into one-inch balls, then coat in either grated milk chocolate or finely chopped walnuts for a finishing touch that adds crunch and class.

The recipe makes about 60, which sounds like a lot until you watch them vanish from the plate.

Kitchen Tips

  • Crush the wafers super fine in a food processor for the smoothest texture
  • If the mixture is too soft to shape, chill for 20 minutes until it firms up
  • Use a small cookie scoop for uniform balls that look polished on a platter
  • These keep well in the fridge for up to two weeks, and the bourbon flavor deepens over time
