This is one of those vintage recipes that deserves a serious comeback.
Grapefruit halves get sprinkled with dark brown sugar and dotted with butter, then heated until the sugar melts into a caramelized glaze and the fruit turns warm and juicy.
Top each half with a bright maraschino cherry and you’ve got a dish that looks straight out of a 1960s brunch spread, but tastes just as good today.
It takes all of 10 minutes from start to finish and works as a light appetizer, a breakfast starter, or a palate cleanser between courses.
Pro Tips
- Broiler option: No microwave preference? Run the grapefruit halves under a broiler for 3-4 minutes for a bubbly, caramelized top.
- Loosen the sections first: Take a minute to cut around each segment with a sharp paring knife. It makes eating so much easier.
- Try honey instead: Swap the brown sugar for a drizzle of honey and a pinch of cinnamon for a different spin.
