10 minThis Halloween punch is a kid party staple. Mixing grape and orange Kool-Aid together creates a murky, swamp-like color that looks perfectly creepy in a punch bowl. Add ginger ale right before serving for fizz that makes it feel like a real party drink.
The grape and orange combination does something unexpected with color. Instead of purple or orange, you get a dark, brownish-green that screams haunted swamp water. Kids go absolutely wild for it, especially if you pour it from a cauldron or add plastic eyeball ice cubes.
Mix the Kool-Aid with sugar and water ahead of time and keep it chilled. The ginger ale goes in at the last minute so it stays bubbly. If you add it too early, the fizz goes flat before the first cup is poured.
Kitchen Tips
- Chill both the Kool-Aid mixture and the ginger ale before combining for a cold, fizzy punch
- Use a clear punch bowl or pitcher to show off the spooky color
- Freeze some of the mixed Kool-Aid in ice cube trays so the punch stays cold without getting watered down
- Stir gently after adding the ginger ale. Aggressive mixing kills the bubbles
Variations
- Add a scoop of lime sherbet floating on top for a foamy, bubbly cauldron effect
- Swap ginger ale for lemon-lime soda for a slightly different fizz
- Float gummy worms or frozen fruit in the punch for an extra creepy presentation
