45 minSome side dishes never go out of style, and cucumber in sour cream is one of them.
Thinly sliced cucumber gets salted and drained for 30 minutes to pull out excess water, then dressed in a tangy mix of sour cream, white vinegar, chopped chives, dill seed, and a couple dashes of Tabasco for a little hidden heat.
Chill it well before serving and you’ve got a cool, creamy side that pairs with grilled meats, roasted fish, or a summer cookout spread.
Kitchen Tips
- Salting and draining the cucumbers is not optional; it prevents the salad from turning into a watery puddle
- Pat the drained slices dry with paper towels before dressing for the creamiest result
- Garnish with a sprig of fresh dill right before serving for a pop of color and aroma
