Bread machine recipes don’t get much easier than this.

Dump everything into the pan in order: yeast, whole wheat flour, salt, maple syrup, optional maple extract, pecans, a sliced ripe banana, and warm water. Select the whole wheat cycle. Press start. Walk away.

The machine handles the kneading, rising, and baking. What comes out is a hearty, lightly sweet loaf with chunks of pecan throughout and a subtle banana-maple flavor that makes the whole kitchen smell incredible.

Pro Tips

  • Add ingredients in the order listed. Most bread machines need wet ingredients near the blade and yeast on top (or vice versa; check your manual)
  • Use a ripe banana for sweetness and moisture, but not one that’s mushy and black. It can throw off the hydration
  • The optional maple extract intensifies the maple flavor without adding more liquid
  • Let the loaf cool on a wire rack before slicing. Hot bread from a machine tears easily
